FIVE NEW PLAYERS
Town Training Squad Three regular members of the Canterbury representative team last year—C. R. Hockley, D. C, Leary, and R. Morris—have been omitted from the Town training squad from which the team to play Country on June 7 will be chosen. The young wings, R. J. Vivian and A. G. Steel, the Lincoln College forwards, D. C. Elvidge and D, E. Snow, and K. S. King, a half-back who plays for Air Force in the senior reserve grade, are new players introduced by the selectors (Messrs R. H. Duff and M. J. Dixon). The squad is:— Forwards: E. Veal (Shirley), J. N. Creighton, M. R. Dunne (University A), D. C. Elvidge, D. E. Snow (Lincoln College), Di J. Graham. M. J. Millar (Old Boys), J. F. Burns (Marist), I. H. Penrose (New Brighton), R. M. Wainohu (Christchurch), D. Pirie (Merivale). Backs: W. F. McCormick (Linwood). W. M Birtwistle, D. A. Arnold, B. A. Watt (Christchurch), .R. J. Vivian, (University A), L. J Davis, W. D. Cottrell (Suburbs), K. S. King (Air Force), W. j. Thompson (Lincoln College), A. G. Steel (Old Boys). R. C Moreton (University A) was not available.
Fire In Mixer.— A fire which broke out in a pigment mixer in the premises of Hornsby and Tapper, Ltd., at 115 Lichfield street, yesterday caused slight damage. The call was attended by three engines from the headquarters station at 4.46 p.m.
