BRIGHT PLAY
Six Tries In Marist Win MARIST 25: C. Consedine (3). B. M. Teen (2) and A. Maher tries: P. Robertson, a penalty goal and two conver S'i on s. MERIVALE 3: L. S. McCaughan, I a try. Only two weeks after its humiliating defeat at the hands of Old Boys, Marist played winning football by the sample expedient of clearing the ball quickly from the scrums and line-outs and giving the speedy three-quarters their heads. Admittedly, the opposition was not strong and there were some imperfections in the execution of movements. But the important thing was that the spirit of attack was restored to the side. As a result the team scored as many tries as it had done in all of Its previous six matches this season. Marist gained impetus for many backs movements through i the forwards knocking the ball back from the line-outs. Robertson, the half-back, channeled this erratic service tidily to his fellow backs and Teen, the centre, and Consedine, the right wing, both fast and determined runners, had a field day. When the occasion allowed, Merivale had its moments, too. D. Wynn and B. Drury initiated several bursts and the lively McCaughan was alway probing for gaps. But chances were wasted through mis/handling and indeeisii'on and the defence fell away badly when Marist rattled on three tries ■in six minutes in the middle of the second half. The pace of the game told on players in the last 15 minutes and the match concluded with much fumbling and kicking for touch. Referee: Mr B. E. Powell.
