Licensing Hours
Sir,—Your editorial plays a familiar tune. But why harp on the same string? With a question as legally complex and as socially far-reaching as this one, 1 should expect a responsible press to tell the whole story. Explain to the people how easy it is to obtain liquor after 6'p.m., including supply to minors. Tell the public that restrictive hours make no difference at all to tourists or bona fide lodgers in hotels. Make plain the liberalising of the 6 p.m. closing in the 1962 Sale of Liquor Act. Tell us plainlyi where the pressure for extended hours is coming from, since the last referendum provided a three-to-one preference for the present hours. We like the music you play, but please extend your repertoire.—Yours, etc., PHILLIP RAMSAY. May 29, 1965.
The Rev. J. Barker, who is assisting in the parish of Merivale, has been appointed vicar of Hororata. He will take up his position in | August
