UNREAL GAME
Exhibition Soccer “I’m sorry if some of the spectators were disappointed we did not play what is called *exhibition football’,’’ said the Sheffield United manager, Mr John Harris, after the match against Blackpool on Saturday. Some people had expressed their disappointment, remarking in the number of passes that went astray and speed at which the game was played. “We could have played exhibition football and probably the players would have preferred it,” said Mr Harris. “But 1 wonder whether the crowd would have wanted it if we had produced that kind of game. “After all, it is a very unreal brand of football when a player will not tackle another, or not strongly, to give him the extra second to control the ball and pass it. “Instead, the player produced the competitive football that is played in the league competition, at speed and with the determination to win. If players are to learn from such games this is how they must be played.”
