Auckland Sideliner Has Perth Offer
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 3. Three Auckland representative cricketers, W. Playle, J. Carson and S. Kohlhasse, will leave for Australia on May 18 and be away for up to two years. Playle, the former New Zealand batsman, has been guaranteed a place in the Clairmont senior team in Perth, the same team that the Australian test bowlers. G. McKenzie and L. Mayne, play for. Carson and Kohlhasse will travel to Brisbane where the former Australian fast bowler, R. Lindwall, has made plans for them to attend his winter coaching school.
This will raise the number of last season's representative squad leaving Auckland to six. Playle, who is 26, said today the “tantalising Australian offer” was one he could not overlook. “I’ve a job waiting for me. a place guaranteed in the Clairmont senior side, and. according to my contact with the club, a better than average chance of playing for Western Australia,” he said. “The way things are I can't see myself playing for Auckland again. “I’ve had offers from every other province in New Zealand. but I can’t even get a trial for Auckland —so what would you do?” He was not happy sitting on the sideline for too long.
