Redfaced Raper

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) SYDNEY, May 3. The international Rugby League footballer, J. W. Raper, caused a pedestrian tangle in Sydney today when he attempted to fulfil a pledge made in his newspaper column on Friday. He had written he would walk Martin Place —one of Sydney’s busiest streets—from end to end barefoot and backwards if the Sydney Rugby League team, St. George, did not beat North Sydney on Saturday. St. George was beaten 17-14. When he was due to start from Macquarie street to George street, about 500 yards, a crowd of almost 20,000 had gathered. They began spilling onto the roadway and intersections. The redfaced footballer, who plays for St. George, looked relieved when police stopped his march after 50 yards
