ANTARCTIC SURVEY

Revised Edition Nearly Ready

A new expanded edition of "The Antarctic Today,” a survey of the Antarctic scene, including scientific developments, is expected to be available in April. Dr. T. Hatherton, of the Geophysical Survey of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, who edited the book, said it had been necessary to revise the book, which was first printed in New Zealand in 1952, and sold out in 1957, because the new wave of scientific and exploratory activity in the Antarctic which had started with the International Geophysical Year had outdated many chapters. The new book, entitled “Antarctica,” is divided into four parts: the nations in Antarctica, the southern ocean, the Antarctic continent, and the polar atmosphere.

The first edition became widely accepted as the standard treatise on Antarctica and was subsequently translated into Russian and Spanish.
