Treasury Computer

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 2. To coincide with the introduction of the decimal currency system, the Government has ordered a new computer for the Treasury. The Parliamentary Undersecretary to the Minister of Finance (Mr R. D. Muldoon) said the computer operation would be introduced into several new departments. "We believe we can use the greatly increased capacity of this new equipment to achieve administrative economics in a number of fields in the State services where computer operations have not been used before,” he said. Speaking after witnessing a demonstration by a computer recently brought into New Zealand, Mr Muldoon said the new Treasury computer—expressed as a certain number of clerks’ wages—was cheap.
