DETERMINED BATTING

Emus XI Held To Draw A determined fourth wicket stand of 123 between P. Stubbings and C. L. Broad frustrated the Emus Xi’s efforts to gain an outright win over the Combined Canterbury Colts XI at Hagley Oval yesterday. The Colts XI was not dismissed until just before stumps for 258 after having been forced to follow on 135 runs behind. Stubbings and Broad batted slowly until the innings defeat was averted, but they went for their shots after this. Broad was the sounder of the two and displayed his strength on the on-side. Stubbings was more fluent on the drive, although one or two were lifted into the covers dangerously. EMUS First Innings .. .. 270 COLTS First Innings (87/7) G. Henry, c Brockington, b Jones 4 M. G.
