N.Z. Man In Ethiopia <N Z. Press Association) NAPIER, Feb. 3. A former Napier man, Dr. R. H. J. Hamlin, received the insignia of the 0.8. E. at an investiture held by Queen Elizabeth in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa yesterday. Dr. Hamlin is working at the Princess Tsahai Hospital, Addis Ababa. He is the son of the late Mr and Mrs R. H. J. Hamlin, of Napier. Dr. Hamlin was born in Napier and received his initial education at the Napier Main School. He later attended the Cathedral Grammar School, Christchurch, and then gained a master of arts degree, later studying medicine at Dunedin. He served in H.M.N.Z.S. Gambia as a surgeon-lieuten-ant during World War 11. After the war. Dr. Hamlin went to Australia, where he served as superintendent of the Crown Street Women’s Hospital, Sydney. He later went to an Adelaide hospital. In 1959 Dr. Hamlin, accompanied by his Australian wife. Dr. Catherine Hamlin, and their son. Richard, went to Ethiopia. There he accepted a post as gynaecologist at the Princess Tsahai Hospital.
