MELBOURNE, February 3.
Two Melbourne service stations are selling Jap-anese-refined petrol at 4d a gallon below the normal retail price. They are at Middle Park and Prahan, southern suburbs.' They are selling Daygas, the product of the Daylube Oil Company. The company last month tried to sell petrol to motorists from a tanker at the side of the Prince’s Highway at Altona.
The principal of Daylube, Mr M. Cocks, today said: "We may have had some outlets stopped, but we are still reaching the public.” i Daylube plans to sell its
petrol from tankers at 5d
below normal prices. On January 7, an 1800gallon tanker sold 250 gallons of petrol to motorists at Altona, about 12 miles south-west of Melbourne, before sales were stopped.
Mr Cocks said he could not predict when the tankers would be back on the roa<l. “No matter what happens we will continue the fight,” he said. “We are locked out of other service stations but we are determined to get outlets, whether tankers or our own stations.”
He said the tankers, if approved, would be operated by Independent resellers on the same basis as service stations.
