Ringleader To Die

(N.Z. Press ASsn.—Copyright) WARSAW, Feb. 3. The master-mind behind a huge meat scandal was sentenced to death yesterday and his four accomplices given life sentences. The death sentence was given to Stanislaw Wawrzecki, former director of the Metropolitan Meat Sales Organisation for central Warsaw. He was accused of organising a ring which stole about £900,000 worth of meat since 1959. Reuter said the scandal involved falsifying scales, watering meat, adulterating sausages and diverting state meat to private channels. Five others also involved in the swindle were sentenced to gaol terms of nine to 12 years. The Court president directed that the personal property of all 10 men be confiscated by the state.
