BLOW TO PLUNKET SHIELD HOPES Andrews, Kiddey Suffering From Injuries

(By Our Cricket Reporter] AUCKLAND, February 3. Canterbury begins its vital Plunket Shield match against Auckland tomorrow with two of its players suffering injuries. J. W. Kiddey, the stock bowler, threw his arm out at practice recently and although he says he can bowl, he finds fielding difficult because he cannot throw properly.

Perhaps more serious is the injury sustained by the young fast bowler, B. Andrews. Not long before he played for the President’s eleven against Pakistan—a match in which he bowled particularly well—Andrews displaced a bicep in his right shoulder. The injury responded to treatment in time for him to play at Palmerston North. Injury Aggravated

While asleep on Sunday night, Andrews suffered the injury again. When he arrived at Auckland today he underwent physiotherapy treatment to dislodge the results of the internal bleeding the injury causes, and he said that he would be able to bowl

tomorrow, perhaps with the assistance of a pain-killing injection. The Canterbury team practised at Eden Park this afternoon. The choice of the twelfth man will not be made until tomorrow morning. Auckland similarly will name its final team before play. Although the test match at Eden Park has hindered preparation of the pitch for the shield match, it is expected that it will play well, with a little life on the first morning, then becoming placid, with some turn later and a tendency for the ball to keep low. At present Central Districts who have completed their programme, lead the competition, with 35 points from five games. Auckland has 31 from four, Canterbury 25 from three. The teams will be chosen from:—

CANTERBURY.— G. T. Dowling, J. Hartland, B. G. Hadlee, B. F. Hastings, J. R. Veitch, K. Thomson, R. Gearry, J. T. Ward, B. Taylor, B. Andrews, P. A. Sharp, J. W. Kiddey. AUCKLAND.— J. T. Sparling, T. W. Jarvis, S. G. Gedye, R. W. Morgan, P. B. McGregor, H. T. Schuster, J. G. Kemp, S. R. Speed, H. J. Howarth, J. M. Mclntyre, R. S. Cunis, D. J. Miliener.
