URGENT CALL AT AIRPORT
American Aid To Sick Woman A quick response by United States Navy medical staff at Christchurch Airport early on Monday afternoon greatly aided a middle-aged Waikari woman, Mrs J. Anderson, who became ill aboard a DC3 of South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand.
An urgent message was received about 1.45 p.m. by the Navy from the airport control tower that a woman thought to be critically ill was aboard an incoming aircraft The United States Navy ambulance moved out on to the tarmac, and Mrs Anderson was taken from the aircraft to the Navy dispensary at Harewood. There the medical officer (Dr. T. Bates) administered oxygen to Mrs Anderson, who was suffering a respiratory ailment Later Mrs Anderson was driven to the Burwood Hospital. Her condition is not serious, although she may remain in the hospital for another day or two.
