Summer Star Best "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. Summer Star, a last start winner at the Vincent meeting, showed that she was well forward to test the opposition in the Festival Handicap at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday, when she worked in an attractive manner at Wingatui yesterday. Summer Star (Clydesdale) was accompanied by Explain (Didham) over five furlongs on the plough in lmin 5 2-ssec, the first two furlongs in 26sec. Explain, runner-up to Andalusia in the Walkouaiti Cup, is to start on the second day of the Dunedin meeting. Lisa (Turnbull), one of the early fancies for the Central Improvers’ Handicap, worked well over the same ground in lmin 6sec, the first two furlongs in 26sec. Lisa was accompanied by Garron Howe (Canning) and Young Peter (Stiver). Bell Count (Turnbull) ran six furlongs in lmin 22sec, the opening two furlongs in 25sec. On COURSE PROPER Bright Countess (Austin) and Panther (Marsh) worked well over five furlongs on the course proper in lmin 5 2-ssec, the last half-mile in a shade under 52sec. The course proper was hard and fast with the trestles 50 feet out. Polar (Marsh), Modern Imp (Silver) and Norse (Turnbull) dashed over half a mile in 51 3-ssec, the first furlong in 12 3-ssec. Heavenly (Tweedie), appeared to be galloping better than PreßtlUte (Skelton), in 53 sec the last three furlongs in 40sec. Corvale (Adams) and Underwood Lass (Marsh) were together in 53 2-Ssec, the last three furlongs in 40 3-ssec. Corvale then jumped four flights of hurdles. He appeared to be feeling the ground and clipped the last fence.

Satinette (Skelton) was keen to gallop but was restrained to three furlongs in 40sec.
