SCHOLARS’ TRAVELS
Engineer To Study Here The practice of awarding scholarships for overseas study has made a difference to the lives of Mr and Mrs J. G. Dew. A scholarship from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music to study piano, violin, viola, and composition at the Royal Academy of Music took Mrs Dew—then Miss Mary Scott, of Dunedin—to London. Now a scholarship awarded to her husband has brought them both to New Zealand. Mr Dew gained one of two Commonwealth scholarships awarded in Britain for study in New Zealand. A B.Sc. graduate in electrical engineering with first-class honours from University College, London, he will study for his doctorate at Canterbury University. Mr Dew will be here for two years. He said his special interests were audio circuits and pulse work. He had some ideas for study here, but he had first to talk them over with his professor, who was away at the moment. Mrs Dew has already given a piano recital from station 4YC Dunedin, and hopes to be able to perform on radio and television in Christchurch.
