Some Ice-Cream Packs To Be Cheaper Soon

Some take home packs of ice-cream would decrease in price throughout Canterbury from February 1, said the manager of General Foods Canterbury, Ltd. (Mr F. Wright), in Christchurch yesterday. General Foods is the major ice-cream manufacturer in Canterbury with several brand names. The exact details of the proposed price had not, been decided. “Whether we will take more off one line and leave others alone, I do not know yet,” said Mr Wright. “I think it will affect the main lines of take home blocks.” The decision to decrease some ice-cream prices followed the recent drop in the price of sugar. Mr Wright said the price decrease by his company, for

certain lines, would be effective throughout New Zealand. He presumed two other major national ice-cream manufacturers would also lower their prices. There were 15 to 20 other very much smaller Ice-cream manufacturers in New Zealand who would follow the example of the major manufacturers.

Asked if prices for bulk ice-cream were likely to be reduced, Mr Wright said he did not think they would be. Novelty lines would not change in price because they had not changed in price since they were put on the market.

“We can’t change the price of cones every day, nor the price of tubs,” he said. “There’s been sixpenny tubs as long as I can remember.”
