HELP FOR LEPERS
New Zealand Thanked
“Thank you New Zealand —Congratulations on your splendid help in 1964.” This is the substance of a Christmas message from the Rev. W. H. Russell, general secretary of the Mission to Lepers, London, to the Rev. M. Feist, the mission’s New Zealand secretary. “Giving to the mission by the people of New Zealand this year,” Mr Russell said, “was all the more welcome because of the rise in maintenance costs in several of the countries where the mission works and the famine prices ruling for food grains in some parts of India.” “I pass our leader’s thanks and congratulations on to the people of New Zealand with my own warm appreciation,” said Mr Feist.
“Recent reports from Leprosy Homes, especially those in India, reveal the difficulty of arranging Christmas festivities where food shortages are acute and hunger is common. However, the prospects for better yields from this harvest have brightened the season for the homes in some areas and the fact that more and more patients can now be treated as outpatients, will help to keep costs down in 1965,” said Mr Feist.
