U.S. CHIDED BY MALAYSIANS

(N.Z.P.A.- Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, December 29. The United States today came under fire from Malaysian political leaders. They said the United States was not doing enough to help Malaysia in its undeclared war with Indonesia.

Yesterday in the Federal Parliament the Defence Minister (Tun Abdul Razak) said he was disappointed at defence loan terms offered to Malaysia by the American Government. They were unacceptable, he said. American and Canadian defence missions have recently visited Malaysia which is in the market for about 30 light trainers, ground-support jets, helicopters, transports, and naval patrol ,craft “Since we are defending not only ourselves but also democracy in this part of the world, our friends ought to look at us with more sympathy and give us more aid,” Razak said. “KNOW NOW” Officials in the United Malay National Organisation, chief partner in the “alliance” coalition which rules Malaysia, told reporters: “At least we know now just how sincere the Americans are towards Malaysia.

“All along we were doubtful of American aid.” Senator Athi Nahappan, of another Government party, the Malaysian Indian Congress, said: “The United States is the bulwark of democracy, and any aid to Malaysia must be given in the light of saving democracy, and not on the basis of trade. “At the present moment there should be a common endeavour by all countries dedicated to democracy to

show they have a stake in our future.” Dr. Tan Chee Khoon, of the Left-wing Opposition Socialist Front, said none of the Western Powers would lend money if it was not in its own interests. “I hope the Government will make a complet re-ap-praisal of its attempts to obtain aid from the West so that Malaysia will not become a pawn in the game of power politics,” he said.
