Christmas Message From The Mayor
“Now that the festive season is with us, it is a pleasure to convey our best wishes and the compliments of the season to all the citizens of Christchurch,” the Mayor and Mayoress of Christchurch (Mr and Mrs G. Manning) say in a Christmas message to Christchurch citizens. “Our thanks and appreciation are offered to all those who have contributed to the progress and enrichment of the life of the city in its economic, cultural and social spheres. It is also with feelings of gratitude that we recall the many associations which function for the comfort and well-being of our less fortunate people. “We can now look back on the receding year as a period of high endeavour and achievement, shown by the completion of the road tunnel, and opening of Cashin quay, Lyttelton, the decision and commencement of the civic centre and town hall, the offstreet parking facilities and the centennial pool amenities. “The central city area is undergoing great changes with new public and private buildings and in the New Year further developments in this
direction will be realised
“Early in the New Year, the Pan Pacific Arts Festival will be held in the city. This event should be the crowning achievement of months of organisation and the apex of the cultural efforts of our music and arts groups.
“May you all enjoy your holidays with the message of Christmas in your minds—‘Peace on Earth, Good Will to all Men’.”
