AUCKLAND, Dec. 21.
A 19-year-old youth on a racing motor-cycle reached speeds of over 90 miles an hour to elude a traffic officer during a three-mile chase along country roads in East Tamaki, Mr W. J. Meade. S.M., was told today. Michael Terrence Moore, carpenter, admitted charges of exceeding 55 miles an hour and driving while disqualified. He was fined a total of £6O and had his disqualification extended to March, 1966. His licence was endorsed a further three years.
Traffic Officer T. C. Payne said he chased the motorcycle because it did not appear to have registration plates. The rider made off at high speed. “The speedometer on the patrol car was showing 90 miles an hour, and I could not make any impression on the motor-cycle, which was drawing rapidly away from me,” said Mr Payne.
