REFLOATED ON TIDE

Scow Aground

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, December 20. The Whangarei scow, Ethel Wells, was refloated at high tide early this morning after a day and night effort by salvage men and the crew to lay out anchors and patch up the leaking hull.

The Ethel Wells was stranded in a dangerous position after striking the Whangapoua bar, on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula, on Friday afternoon.

The Ethel Wells, which is owned and skippered by Captain T. P. Nalder, was on a passage from Whangarei, where she had loaded 45 tons of lime, to Whangapoua.
