SOCIETY PLANS HEADQUARTERS
Fund Available Of £26,000
The North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society had recently given some thought to the question of a town headquarters in Christchurch, said the president of the society (Mr F. J. Gorton) at the society’s 100th annual general meeting last evening. The society, he said, needed such a headquarters to carry out its fish conservation and other duties more efficiently. Till now, said Mr Gorton, it had not been lawful for the society to build office premises for itself. “I understand an Act is going through at our request which will enable us to use some of our surplus money to secure accommodation which will be worthy of members of the society,” said Mr Gorton. Earlier in the meeting a former council member, Mr R. B. Soanes, said the society had £26,000 in accumulated funds.
