WOMEN’S PART IN FESTIVAL

"Hostesses For The Gty” The idea that the women of Christchurch had only been given the chores to do (like washing dishes and making cups of tea) at the Pan Pacific Arts Festival was something of a misapprehension, said Mrs G. W. Fairweather at a meeting of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women last evening. By serving meals to festival visitors, women had actually been given the opportunity of hostessing for the city. “The main thing is to meet the visitors and talk to them. Providing meals is only a vehicle for this,” she said. The president (Miss ML E. Saunders) asked for names of persons who would provide bed and breakfast, at current rates, to visitors. She also suggested that visitors be given buttonholes as a friendly gesture during the festival.
