“Congratulations to ‘The Press’ for Monday’s colourful and entertaining description of Saturday’s cricket. In my time I have seen many wickets taken cheaply and dropped catches which have proved costly but ‘Sydenham’s plundering of the Old Collegians bowling to the tune of £390 for six wickets’ must be an alltime record for an innings of value and expensive trundling It should ensure for both teams a place of honour in this year’s ‘Wisden.’ The question is: will the unexpected financial windfall be placed to Sydenham’s credit and if so will the club’s amateur status be endangered.” GREYEST BEARD.
