The formation of the Association of Presbyterian Women at Presbyterial level had been Smooth and happy, the Dominion president of the association, Mrs R. S. Royds, of Christchurch, said in the first annual report of the association. The report will be presented at the first national annual meeting, which will begin at
Greyfriar's Church, Mt. Eden, Auckland, tomorrow. A meeting of the national executive is being held there today. The Association of Presbyterian Women was formed last year by the amalgamation of three organisations,the Presbyterian Women’s 'Missionary Union, the Auxiliary, and the Women’s Fellowship. The time spent in planning for the future had been well spent. Reports from the former organisations showed that there had been continued effort and enthusiasm at branch level, Mrs Royds said. Two new Presbyterials had been formed, at North Shore and Hutt Valley.
All Presbyterials reported greatly increased’ numbers and enthusiasm at their meetings. Special offerings and donations had been made to a number of causes, including the Mission to Lepers, and the Freedom from Hunger Campaign. Reports from the five national departments (prayer and study, mission, parish and community service, programme and literature, and magazine and newsletter) will be presented by the conveners.
Linen has been provided ifor Bandung Hospital 289 branches sent Maori parcels and 311 branches sent parcels to the New Hebrides, and goods have been sent to the Mission to Lepers, C.0.R.5.0. and Save the Children Fund, the overseas, home and Maori missions department reports.
Money allocated by the overseas mission committee included India, £5O; Papua, £3O; Indonesia, £2O; New Hebrides, for typewriters for Onesua High School, £39 6s Bd.
An important aspect of the committee’s work was the constant stream of inquiries and applicants for overseas service, and the openings for new works that arose, said the report.
A wide range of services and support of community activities is reported by the parish and community service department. The twenty-seventh annual report of the Deaconess Association of the Presbyterian Church will also be presented. Widened and enriched fellowship was the highnote of the last year, it states. A gift of £7O was sent to assist deaconesses in Japan.
