CANADA’S GIFT
Airport In Ceylon (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter > COLOMBO. Work on the new Katunayake airport, which Canada is giving to Ceylon under the Colombo Plan, will be done in two stages. The first stage will include strengthening and lengthening the existing 6000-foot runway to 11,000 feet and constructing a taxi-way and aircraft apron to accommodate the long-range jets flown by international airlines. The total cost of this work, together with access roads and other related works, is estimated at about £1,170,000. The second stage will provide a three-storey airconditioned terminal building with separate lounges and accommodation for important visitors. The floor area of the pas-senger-handling facilities will be about 80,000 square feet, about the same as the Ottawa Airport terminal.
