U.S. PICKET SHIP
Boiler Causes Return
The U.S.S. Mills has left her picket-duty position midway between New Zealand and the Antarctic and is due at Dunedin at 5.30 a.m. today. She is returning because a • boiler and an evaporator are faulty. Repairs were attempted, but were unsuccessful. It is expected repairs will take at least a week, and for this period there will be no picket ship. No request has been made to the Royal New Zealand Navy to assist. Flights between Christchurch and McMurdo Station will continue.
