CIVIL DEFENCE COURSES
Two Planned At Lincoln College
The first of this year’s two three-day courses for South Island civil defence controllers will start at Lincoln College on November 16. The second course will start on November 23. | The conference is to bring controllers up to date on civil defence matters and to assist local authorities in the development of plans. This year the emphasis will be on the co-ordination of plans on mutual aid and rescue operations within sub-regions. Many attending the courses will live in at Lincoln College. Accommodation expenses at the college are met by the Ministry of Civil Defence. The first course will cater for 87 persons—civil defence controllers from the West Coast, Nelson, Marlborough, North Canterbury and South Canterbury and members of the Christchurch regional committee. The second will cater for 74—controllers from Otago and Southland and members of the Dunedin regional committee. Activities will include lectures, films, and discussions. Among the speakers will be Dr. L. F. Jepson and Dr. F. A. de Hamel of the Health Department, who will speak on health problems in disaster; Mr H. J. Yeabsley of the National Radiation Laboratory, who will speak on nuclear aspects of civil defence, and Lieutenant Colonel R. L. Moor and Wing Commander R. A.
