WORLD FAIR CLOSES
Took 30m Doi. (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, October 18. In a burst of fireworks the World’s Fair closed its doors for 1964 today, promising to reopen next year as a bigger, newer, more-highly attended show. Mr Thomas J. Deegan jun., the executive committee chairman of the fair corporation, blamed summer heat, Harlem riots and reports about lack of hotel space early in the season for cutting profits from the estimated 53 million dollars over the two-year run to 30 million.
Since the fair opened on April 22, 33 million persons have walked through the gates, several million free.
For the next season of the fair, new exhibits are planned in the international, industrial and transportation areas.
