Man On Beat Still Best
(N.Z. Press Association) HASTINGS, Oct. 19. One of the best remedies to combat crime is to have a larger number of police on the beat in any city, said Inspector K. Ford, of Wellington, recruiting organiser for the North Island, in Hastings. The inspector said that in large cities where there had been adequate patrolmen the crime rate had been greatly reduced. In New Plymouth, more men had been put on the beat over the last 18 months and in that period there had not been one case of shopbreaking.
