FAILING NURSES

Experts To Be Sought (N.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 1. The Auckland Hospital Board is seeking expert assistance from the Auckland School of Nursing panel of examiners before discussing two confidential reports from the Nurses' and Midwives' Board concerning the unprecedented failure rate of Auckland nurses in the State final examination. The chairman of the hospital board (Mr T. H. C. Caughey) has told board members that he is prepared to call on the Ombudsman and take up to 12 months to ascertain why less than 50 per cent of the candidates passed the examination. Mr Caughey said a special meeting of the board would be called immediately the report of the examiners’ panel became available. The panel is expected to discuss the confidential reports on Wednesday of next week.
