7-1 WIN TO INDIA
Hankers B. Outplayed (N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, September 2. Playing in driving rain and a cold wind, the Indian Olympic hockey team beat Hawke’s Bay, 9-1, at Napier today. A small crowd huddled In one stand watched the Indians run all over their opponents in the first half. India led, 7-0, at half-time and looked easily capable of scoring as many in the second half. But the Indians had the wind blowing into their faces and Hawke’s Bay improved vastly. K. Rigby scored Hawke’s Bay’s only goal shortly after half-time, but a firm defence prevented further goals. India’s inside-forward, Harbindefr Singh, was the most successful, scoring four goals, and other goals came from Priithipal Singh (two), Udham Singh, Dharam Singh and K, Haripal.
