The United States planned to test a nuclear power unit in space flight next year, American scientists told the third “Atoms for Peace” conference in Geneva yesterday. Details of the cone-shaped power unit, Weighing 9501 b and about 12ft high with a base diameter of sft, were given in a paper on “Reactor Direct-conversion Units.” It was submitted by Messrs Herman M. Dieckamp, M. R. Balent and J. R. Wetch, all of Atomics International. The unit, known as Snap 10A, will have a lifetime in 1 space of one year.
