Advertisement With Sukarno Attacked
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, September 1. A • national newspaper advertisement showing President Sukarno, of Indonesia, scowling and with teeth bared was severely criticised today by Dr. A. M. Finlay, Labour member of Parliament for Waitakere. The ■ advertisement was “nothing but harmful,” Dr. Finlay told Lower Hutt Rotarians. He described a picture of President Sukarno used at the top of the advertisement
as “hateful and prejudicial.” “It is trying to influence people against Sukarno by an emotional piece of frank propaganda,” he said. The advertisement is one of a series prepared by the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association in* an effort to boost newspaper sales. • It runs periodically in all member newspapers. The picture shows President Sukarno in front of a battery, of microphones. A newspaper under the picture carries the banner headline: “Malaysian Dispute."
