Record Import Curbs To Stay (N.Z. Press Association? PALMERSTON NORTH, September 2. It would not be possible to exempt from import restrictions gramophone records of an educational, religious or classical nature, the Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton) has informed the New' Zealand Federation of Recorded Music Societies. Mr Shelton says there would be administrative difficulty in differentiating between specialised recordings, standard recordings, and those recordings required in sufficient quantities to warrant local manufacture. The southern regional conference of the federation in July had asked the Minister to free such records from restrictions, or, if this could not be done, to allow individual retailers to import records not handled by the New Zealand importers.
