TELEPHONE FAULTS
Engineers Want To Be Told If any telephone subscribers were still having trouble the Post Office wanted to know about it, said the Post Office regional engineer- (Mr H. W. Wilkinson) yesterday. As far as the engineers know, all complaints after last Friday’s cut-over had been dealt with. There will be more new telephone numbers at the next change of telephone directory. Most of those who have had numbers changed this time are unlikely to have a further change for a long time, but when new exchanges at Islington and Harewood are brought into action some alterations, will be necessary. Both these exchanges will then be linked with the main metropolitan exchange. Some Papanui and Fendalton subscribers will be linked with the new Harewood exchange when it comes into action, and will have numbers changed. The next directory will have about 7000 number changes in addition to the normal routine changes arising from changes of address.
