Obituary MR D. MORRIS

A well-known and respected member of the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association. Mr David Morris, died in Christchurch yesterday. He was 83. Mr Morris emigrated to New Zealand with his family from England in 1922. After looking around the Dominion he finally settled in Christchurch where he spent the rest of his life. He was best known through his association with the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association and particularly so with this association’s wartime charitable efforts. Mr Morris was keenly interested in all Jewish affairs. For 15 years he was secretary of the Canterbury Hebrew Congregation. His main other interests were music and the theatre. He is survived by three daughters. MR A. A. SWABY The death occurred in Christchurch last week of Mr Alan Atkin Swaby, an old resident of Lyttelton, who was well known to many senior citizens of Christchurch. Mr Swaby took an active part in two of the city’s clubs for old people—the Christchurch New Zealand Pensioners’ Association, as it was then known, and the Sydenham Friendly Club, of which he was a foundation and life member. For many years Mr Swaby played the organ at both clubs. He had a remarkable memory. Though blind, he could still play about 200 items. Mr Swaby's activities contributed much to the social life of chib members. He is survived by a daughter and a son.
