HUNT FOR CRIMINAL
(N.Z Press Assn—Copyright) LONDON, Aug. 31. Every male between the ages of 19 and 60 in the eastern parishes of Jersey, in the Channel Islands, is being, fingerprinted in an effort to track down a sex maniac, says the "Sunday Times.” In spite of intensive activities by local police and Scotland Yard, the offender has remained undetected on the island for six years. He is believed to have assaulted, or attempted to assault, 13 children. He usually strikes about midnight on a Saturday at lonely farms dr cottages. The child is awakened from its sleep and taken out of doors. Often a rope is placed around its neck. Occasionally the child is taken back to the house and tucked in bed again. Scotland Yard thinks the offender is being shielded by someone. “A man cannot go out late at night and return in the early hours of the morning, often with mudstained clothing, without someone noticing,” one detective said. “Somewhere a wife or a sister or a mother is keeping this man’s activities secret.”
