Top-Dressing Strips
Sir, Congratulations to farmers who provide decent top-dressing strips. The pilot feels obliged, to operate. The farmer is a decent chap, the super is .ready, and he worked off these rocks and ruts last year. Still, the pilot can hesitate in winds. Should he go under or over those power wires? He must remember to dodge those trees at the bottom. Can he be airborne before he reaches the fence? So he glances at the wind clouds for a possible answer. The farmer is startled at the delay. He knows it is not raining so what is the pilot expecting from the sky—a halo or something? Last year, the A.A. accident summary suggested: “Trust not the seat of the pant?, nor the . devil in thy soul, but follow thine instructions.” A crashed plane decorated one comer. Now for something definite. —Yours etc., CUPID’S CUTIE. August 30, 1964.
