Furniture, Van Burnt

(N Z Press Association) DUNEDIN, August 30. When a van-load of furniture caught fire on the main road near Dunback on Saturday almost £3OOO worth of furniture and the £2BOO vehicle were destroyed. The furniture belonged to the Hyde storekeeper, Mr F. O. Geering, who is shifting his home to Roseneath, near Dunedin. He said that the furniture may hot be covered by his insurance policy. All that remains of the furniture and the seven-ton truck, which was less than a year old, will be pushed over the bank with a grader tomorrow. “All our worldly possessions were in that truck," Mr Geering said. Traffic was held up for four hours until a grader was called to clear a bypass around the wreckage, which was too hot to move. The cause of the fire is not known.
