SECRECY AT PORT
Unloading In Cyprus
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LIMASSOL (S. Cyprus), July 21. New Zealand United Nations police were barred from a wharf at Limassol before dawn today as 36 truckloads of crates—some of them of the type used to carry ammunition and guns—were landed and rushed inland. Trucks sped out of the sealed-off dock area, with armed vehicles at the head and tail of each part of the convoy.
Seven trucks each carried one crate measuring 20ft high, 20ft long and Bft wide. Others were loaded with boxes and crates similar to the types used to carry ammunition, rifles and machineguns.
In the centre of the convoy was a brand-new lorry painted in the khaki colour used by the Greek army. It was towing a new trailer and aerials indicated it was crammed with mobile radio equipment. Greek Cypriots made every effort to hide the movements of the trucks. Turkish Cypriot harbour workers were sent home at dusk yesterday and New Zealand United Nations police, who normally patrol the wharf during the night, were barred.
