AIRPORT TO HAVE TV
Closed Circuit
faster reaction and improved service to the travelling public are expected at Christchurch airport when the authority installs a closed circuit television system in a few months. Specifications are being drawn up now and tenders are to be called soon. Mr A. 1. R. Jamieson, the airport manager, said yesterday that at least six television repeater screens would be installed at strategic points throughout the terminal and announcements would be made from the remodelled public address studio.
Announcements would be made on camera by one of the girls on the airport staff, and when her picture faded from the screen she would leave a written notice behind. Main use for the television system would be advising of aircraft arrivals and departures. At other times it would be used to promulgate information about the facilities at the airport. Installation of the system would be paid for by the airport authority, and there would be a charge for the organisations which used it—such as airlines and other airport users, when making announcements.
