SALVAGED TRAWLER

Future Matter For Owners (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 21. Negotiations on the future of the salvaged 240-ton steam trawler, Hautapu, have been completed by the owners and the insurers. The trawler will remain in the hands of the owners, New Zealand Fisheries, Ltd. The company’s managingdirector, Mr J. W. Jenssen, of Napier, said the fate of the trawler would be decided at a meeting of directors later this month.

The Hautapu went aground at Ward last year and was not salvaged till several months later. After the first salvage attempt, the company abandoned the trawler to the un-. derwriters, Lloyd’s of London. It was considered repairs would exceed the £40,000 insurance. Lloyd’s, however, felt the Hautapu could be salvaged. Both opinions had proved correct, said Mr Jenssen.
