The Stock Exchange of Melbourne has called tenders for the installation of a computer communications system to give within seconds by teleprinter the latest buying and selling quotations of any listed stock. The system will answer Australian and overseas queries from a subscriber’s line or the P.M.G.’s telex service. It will be extended later to cover details of last sales. Highs and lows for the day, month and year, and current dividend and earnings yields. Announcing the calling of tenders the acting chairman of the exchange (Mr A. E. Watkin) said the system would bring the public closer to fluctuations on the trading floor by immensely improving facilities for sending information.
