Potatoes
Sir,—New Zealand is to sell Australia 1500 tons of potatoes if they pass the cooking test A merchant submitted 10 samples and had only one accepted. What is wrong with our potatoes? For a number of years it has been hard to obtain a good cooking potato. When peeling, black streaks are often present or, when cooked, hard, dark lumps and many other bad aspects. Is it the hormone for sprout control or weed spray in the field? Someone must know what is wrong. If not it is about time they did. —Yours, etc., TED SPUD. July 19, 1964.
