WOOL PRICE SCHEME

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA, July 19. The Australian Wool Board has recommended a reserve price scheme within the present Australian wool auction system. The wool board said that to be fully effective a reserve price scheme must apply to as many primary producing industries as possible. This authority would have to consider:— The level of reserve prices fixed by other countries. The average price for wool in the previous season. Economic conditions in the main consuming countries. The relationship between prices of wool and other competitive fibres. The board said that on these criteria if the average price in a hypothetical selling season was 65d per lb for an average quality clip, then the reserve price for the following season would be about 54d.
