TOPLESS SUITS
City Model In Auckland Shop (N.Z. Press Assoctation) AUCKLAND, July 19. Under the critical gaze of a plain-clothes policewoman, topless swim suits were modelled in an Auckland store on Friday. The model was a 19-year-old Christchurch typist She modelled two topless suits using sticking plaster to keep the 1| inch straps in place. The store was crowded, and after a few seconds of stunned silence, the audience, mainly young men and women, broke into spontaneous applause. “I had no qualms, really,” said Barbara, the girl who modelled the suits. “I wouldn’t care to wear a topless swim suit on the beach though. There’s a lot of fussing around with the straps. Let’s face it, it isn’t very practical, is it?” Mr P. B. Godward, the young designer of the two suits said only two of the suits had been sold so far. Store buyers had- shown no interest in them. A topless dress displayed in an Invercargill store has been sold. The customer was a young married woman. She said she was saving it for some “special occasion.” The occasion was' not defined.
