STATE AID TO SCHOOL

■ Education Boards' Part Education boards would be responsible for distributing certain items of Government aid for private schools, the Canterbury Education Board was told in a circular letter from the Education Department. The functions to be carried out by the boards include the annual distribution of art and craft material: the distribution of the new number apparatus when it becomes available; the issue of materials such as infant apparatus, and any other special equipment .of a similar kind which may be distributed in the future; and the provision of basic equipment for new schools. The Canterbury board decided to take up with the department the question of the reimbursement of boards for the extra storage space and staff time needed to administer the scheme. It decided also to ask the board to give an approximate date for the availability of the new number apparatus and details of items to be supplied.

Riccarton Rotarians.—Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Riccarton Rotary Club were:—president, Mr J. Marlowe; vicepresident, Dr. J. R. Dawson; directors, Messrs R. H. Skinner, C. C. L. Smith, L D. Cain, and J. G. Dunstan; secretary, Mr L E. Cooper.
