PRODUCTION SURVEY

Trend Is To Level Off fSpecial Crspdt. N.p.P.A.) LONDON, July 19. The "surprising upshot” of the tenth production survey just made among 500 industrial firms by the National Association of British Manufacturers shows that production is tending to level off and that the trend may become more marked in the second half of the year. Reviewing the position, the "Guardian’s” financial editor says that the general picture is still one of rising production, but fewer firms report expansion for the second quarter than for the first quarter, and still fewer expect output to go on rising in the third quarter of the year. The firms to which the survey refers cover a wide range of industries from engineering and vehicles to textiles and clothing, chemical, building materials, food, drink and tobacco, and paper and printing.
